Layout Design Staff Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Layout Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Lead physical layout development for embedded SRAM memory compiler peripheral circuits at advanced process nodes. Collaborate with circuit design, CAD, verification, and foundry teams to deliver layouts that meet targets for performance, power, area, reliability, manufacturability, and yield.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 6+ years of professional experience in SRAM or embedded memory layout design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead layout implementation for peripheral circuits (sense amplifiers, decoders, write drivers, control logic) in SRAM compilers.
- Optimize layouts to meet specifications for performance, power, area, reliability, manufacturability, and yield.
- Drive physical verification closure (DRC, LVS, ERC, antenna checks) and coordinate parasitic extraction efforts.
- Collaborate with circuit designers to satisfy timing, matching, and electrical requirements.
- Address advanced-node challenges: device matching, parasitic management, high-density routing, and reliability constraints.
- Develop and implement layout methodology improvements and automation to increase productivity.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to layout engineers and conduct design reviews.
Requirements
Must-have skills and valued experience:
- 6+ years of professional experience in SRAM or embedded memory layout design (bitcells, arrays, peripheral circuits).
- Comprehensive understanding of SRAM architecture, bitcell operation, array organization, and peripheral circuit function.
- Proven ability to optimize layouts across performance, power, area, reliability, and manufacturability trade-offs.
- Experience driving physical verification closure and working with parasitic extraction results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for device matching and advanced-node layout challenges.
- Scripting or layout automation experience (highly valued).
- Experience with technology bring-up or foundry collaboration (valued).
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical reviews.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, or a related technical discipline.
