Lab Manager

Role Summary

Manage and operate Arm's electronics and hardware engineering lab in Cambridge. Own lab infrastructure, safety, ESD program, equipment lifecycle, documentation and operational strategy to ensure engineers have a reliable environment for design, validation and test.

This is a hands-on, technical role that partners with hardware, software, IT and facilities teams to maintain audit-ready processes, drive continuous improvement, and support system bring-up and debug activities.

Responsibilities

Primary operational, compliance and engineering-support duties for the electronics/hardware lab.

  • Own end-to-end lab operations to ensure high availability, reliability and readiness.
  • Oversee lab infrastructure: server racks, boards, test equipment, instruments, power distribution, network integration and environmental constraints.
  • Manage equipment lifecycle: procurement, setup, maintenance, calibration, storage and decommissioning.
  • Define, document and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), workflows and access policies.
  • Lead the ESD program: design and maintain EPAs, grounding systems, ESD-safe workflows and routine verifications in line with ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340-5-1.
  • Maintain audit readiness: prepare evidence, support inspections and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Support engineering activities including system bring-up, board testing, debugging, power and thermal validation, and automated test execution.
  • Coordinate asset allocation, supplier relationships, service contracts and liaison with IT and facilities.
  • Plan lab evolution: capacity planning, infrastructure upgrades, workflow automation and environmental monitoring.
  • Mentor and coordinate technicians or junior engineers; deliver and track training and certifications.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, operational experience and compliance knowledge.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in electronics/hardware labs, including system bring-up, testing, validation and troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience managing lab operations, equipment lifecycle and infrastructure deployment.
  • Deep understanding of ESD standards and EPA design; experience with ESD control plans, verifications and documentation.
  • Experience preparing for and supporting quality audits and driving CAPA to closure.
  • Strong technical knowledge of boards, servers, power systems, instrumentation and lab networks.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and communication skills; ability to work across engineering, IT, facilities and suppliers.
  • Experience defining SOPs, lab policies, safety guidance or quality processes; ability to take initiative and drive improvements.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with high-performance computing, SoC bring-up labs or advanced system integration facilities.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems or lab inventory tools.
  • Exposure to ISO frameworks, safety regulations or hardware compliance environments.
