Junior Failure Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Failure Analysis team to learn and apply electrical and physical failure-analysis methods that support product quality, reliability and manufacturing yield for advanced semiconductor technologies. The role combines structured on-the-job training with hands-on work using techniques such as fault isolation, nanoprobing, FIB and SEM.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” suitable for recent graduates or candidates with first professional experience; industry experience is not required.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on performing and documenting failure analyses, building technical expertise, and collaborating across engineering and production teams.

  • Learn and apply electrical and physical failure-analysis methods through structured on-the-job training.
  • Support root-cause analyses using advanced failure-analysis techniques (fault isolation, nanoprobing, FIB/SEM).
  • Perform electrical device characterization and defect localization on modern semiconductor technologies.
  • Analyze, interpret and document measurement results clearly and concisely.
  • Communicate findings to engineers, customers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with production, yield engineering, integration, technology development and quality teams.
  • Support operation, qualification and continuous improvement of nanoprobing tools and methods.
  • Contribute to local and global projects to improve failure-analysis processes and success rates.

Requirements

Must-have professional attributes and practical skills for the role.

  • Recent graduate or early-career engineer; first professional experience acceptable.
  • Strong interest in semiconductor technology, device physics and analytical problem solving.
  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor devices and measurement techniques from coursework, internships, theses or lab work.
  • Willingness to learn advanced failure-analysis methods and to develop technical expertise continuously.
  • Structured, self-directed working style with strong communication and teamwork skills in an international environment.
  • Very good German and English language skills.
  • Python skills are a plus.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Microsystems Engineering, Nanotechnology or a comparable technical degree (Masterabschluss). The posting targets recent graduates; industry experience is not required.
