Junior CPU Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Work on Intel's Atom CPU Design team to verify next-generation processor designs before silicon. The engineer will build verification environments, create and execute test plans, debug presilicon failures, and collaborate with architects, RTL designers, and physical design teams to meet functional, performance, and power goals.
Experience Level
Entry-level (College graduate). The posting requests initial candidates with early practical experience; educational or internship experience is acceptable and typical for this role.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities include creating verification infrastructure, executing tests, debugging failures, and working with cross-functional teams to ensure CPU correctness and performance.
- Perform functional verification of CPU logic against microarchitecture specifications.
- Develop IP verification plans, testbenches, and verification environments.
- Define and run system-level simulations to verify design behavior, power, and timing.
- Replicate, root-cause, and debug issues in the presilicon environment and implement fixes.
- Document test plans and present technical reviews with design and architecture teams.
- Maintain and improve functional verification infrastructure and methodology.
- Participate in defining architecture and microarchitecture features and their verification strategies.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; additional preferred skills listed below.
- Experience with digital logic concepts: instruction execution, ALUs, control units, registers, memory, and buses.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, or Tcl), plus C++ and SystemVerilog for verification and debug.
- Experience developing testbenches and verification environments; familiarity with debugging presilicon failures.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; effective teamwork in multidisciplinary engineering groups.
Nice-to-have:
- RTL development experience and SystemVerilog coding/debug proficiency.
- Knowledge of x86 or other computer architectures and assembly language skills.
- Familiarity with version control (GIT) and Synopsys simulators.
- Experience using AI agents in projects or development workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The role expects approximately 3+ months of relevant educational or work experience in digital logic, scripting, C++ and SystemVerilog; this experience may be obtained via coursework, internships, research, or practical work.
