Job Title

Junior CPU Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Work on CPU functional verification within Intel's Core Engineering team to validate microarchitecture and RTL prior to silicon. The role focuses on developing and executing verification plans, creating testbenches and simulation environments, debugging presilicon issues, and collaborating with architects and RTL teams to meet functional, performance, and power targets.

Experience Level

Entry-level / College graduate. Guidance: 0–1+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include verifying CPU logic and supporting verification infrastructure.

  • Develop and execute IP verification plans, testbenches, and verification environments to meet microarchitecture specifications.
  • Run system simulations to verify design behavior, analyze power and timing, and identify bugs.
  • Replicate, root-cause, and debug presilicon issues; implement corrective fixes and re-run tests.
  • Collaborate with CPU architects, RTL developers, and physical design teams on complex features and verification scope.
  • Document test plans and present technical reviews with design and architecture teams.
  • Maintain and improve functional verification infrastructure and methodology.
  • Contribute to feature definition and verification strategy for CPU microarchitectural components.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical abilities for initial consideration.

  • Experience in digital logic design (instruction execution, ALUs, control units, registers, memory, system buses).
  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (example: Python, Perl, Tcl), plus C++ and SystemVerilog.
  • Familiarity with RTL development and debug practices.
  • Ability to reproduce and debug complex functional issues in presilicon simulation environments.
  • Version control experience (GIT) and use of industry simulators (e.g., Synopsys) is helpful.
  • Preferred: knowledge of x86 or other computer architectures and assembly language skills; experience using AI agents in projects is a plus.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or related field. Requirements may alternatively be satisfied by equivalent practical experience gained through internships, relevant job experience, coursework, or research.
