IP Validation Engineer - Machine Learning Accelerators

Role Summary

Join the Reality Labs Silicon team to develop and execute hardware-software validation infrastructure for on-device ML accelerators across emulation, prototyping, and silicon. The role focuses on bring-up, functional validation, performance and power characterization, debugging cross-layer issues, and improving robustness of ML accelerator IP.

You will partner with RTL design, verification, emulation, architecture, compiler, firmware/runtime, and ML model teams to define validation requirements and drive issues to resolution across pre-silicon and post-silicon platforms. Locations include Sunnyvale, CA and additional engineering sites.

Experience Level

Senior - the role expects approximately 8+ years of relevant experience in consumer electronics or related fields.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning and executing validation and characterization for ML accelerator IP, debugging cross-layer issues, and communicating results to stakeholders.

• Define and execute HW‑SW integration, functional validation, and characterization plans for ML accelerator IP across emulation, prototyping, and silicon platforms.
• Develop test methodologies and detailed test plans for new features and technologies; participate in design reviews to influence test strategy.
• Bring up ML workloads on target platforms, perform functional debug and performance characterization, and verify fixes.
• Create test setups, collect and analyze large datasets to diagnose issues and summarize findings for stakeholders.
• Identify technical risks, propose mitigation strategies, and work with vendors and partners to resolve test escapes and coverage gaps.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with RTL, verification, emulation, architecture, compiler, firmware, and system teams to drive issues to closure.

Must-have:

• 8+ years of relevant experience in consumer electronics or related fields.
• Experience creating validation plans and test methodologies for hardware products and new features.
• Proven HW‑SW integration and validation experience for ML accelerators or programmable compute IP, including workload bring‑up, functional debug, and performance characterization.
• Familiarity with common SoC interfaces such as AXI, APB, AHB, and OCP.
• Experience troubleshooting test escapes and coordinating with component vendors.
• Ability to collect, process, and interpret large amounts of validation data to support debugging and product decisions.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with embedded systems (RTOS/Android/Linux) and acting as a verification or systems engineer.
• Experience with ML frameworks, compilers, runtimes, profiling, or workload optimization (data movement, memory behavior, power).
• Scripting and automation experience for test orchestration and data processing.
• Experience working with overseas development and manufacturing partners and knowledge of consumer electronics product lifecycle.
• Familiarity with responsible AI practices and integrating AI tools to optimize workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
