Job Title

IP & Design Engineering Intern (Fall 2026)

Role Summary

Join GlobalFoundries' RF/mm-Wave Reference Design Team to develop mm-wave reference circuits for internal test chips and multi-project wafers (MPWs). Work includes schematic design, physical layout, parasitic extraction, pre- and post-layout simulation, and EM simulation to meet circuit performance targets.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for graduate students (intern/co-op). Must be available to work full time (at least 40 hours/week) during the internship period.

Responsibilities

Primary technical responsibilities and safety expectations:

  • Design and tape-out mm-Wave reference circuits for internal test chips and MPWs.
  • Create schematic designs, perform physical layout, and run parasitic extraction.
  • Perform pre- and post-layout circuit simulations and electromagnetic (EM) simulations.
  • Optimize circuits to meet performance requirements and collaborate with design leads across concurrent projects.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and work safely.

Requirements

Core skills and expectations. Education requirements are summarized separately below.

Must-have:

  • Transistor-level circuit design understanding.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with RF/mm-Wave circuit design.
  • Proficiency with Cadence-based EDA tools.
  • English fluency (written and verbal).
  • Availability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with RF transceiver building blocks (PA, LNA, VCO, PLL, mixer, VGA).
  • Familiarity with RF CMOS technologies (bulk, SOI).
  • Prior internship or co-op experience and evidence of leadership on projects or competitions.
  • Project management, planning, and strong communication skills.

Education Requirements

Master's (MS) or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline; specialization in RF, mm-Wave, mixed-signal, or analog IC design is preferred.
