Internship — Understanding the reliability of advanced laminate-based electronic packages

Role Summary

Investigate and characterize degradation and failure mechanisms in advanced laminate-based electronic packages with complex multi-material interfaces. The work supports reliability assessment for automotive and industrial applications by combining testing, failure analysis, and data-driven evaluation.

The intern will join the Product Quality & Diagnostic Center (PDQC) team to support product qualification, reliability testing, failure analysis, and implementation of evaluation strategies.

Experience Level

Entry-level — internship (student role).

Responsibilities

Work on experiments and analyses that determine reliability limits and failure mechanisms of laminate-based packages.

• Design and perform reliability tests (humidity with electrical bias, thermo-mechanical loading) and long-duration exposures.
• Conduct failure analysis and root-cause investigations on degraded devices and materials interfaces.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret test and diagnostic data; document results.
• Support development and implementation of reliability test methods and evaluation strategies.
• Collaborate with PDQC and cross-functional teams to translate findings into qualification recommendations.

Requirements

Minimum practical and interpersonal qualifications for the internship.

• Affinity with semiconductors, reliability engineering, and solid-state/physical principles.
• Team player; able to work in international, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Flexible, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Education Requirements

Master of Science (MSc) in Microelectronics — enrollment as a Master's student in Microelectronics (or equivalent academic standing) is expected for this internship.
