Internship — Design of a High-Performance Current-Feedback Instrumentation Amplifier

Role Summary

The intern will research, design and evaluate current-feedback instrumentation amplifier topologies to improve linearity, stability and noise performance. Work includes architecture exploration, circuit-block design, simulation, and robustness analysis.

The role is part of the analog/R&D team based in Catania, contributing to solutions for biomedical and industrial sensing applications.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Intended for current MSc students in relevant fields; typically 0–2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on circuit design, simulation and analysis to push amplifier performance.

  • Investigate and compare multiple instrumentation‑amplifier topologies.
  • Design and simulate circuit blocks (OTAs, feedback networks) and full amplifier topologies.
  • Perform noise and linearity analysis; develop analytical models where needed.
  • Implement and evaluate chopping techniques and potential ripple‑reduction loops.
  • Run PVT and Monte Carlo simulations to assess robustness and variability.
  • Document results and present findings to the engineering team.

Requirements

Core technical skills and personal qualities required for successful contribution.

Must-have

  • Strong fundamentals in analog circuit theory and OTAs/instrumentation amplifiers.
  • Experience with circuit simulation and design workflows (SPICE-level simulation).
  • Practical skills in noise analysis and linearity evaluation for IC architectures.
  • Ability to perform PVT and Monte Carlo analyses.
  • Good English communication and documentation skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Familiarity with Cadence analog design and verification tools.
  • Experience with chopping techniques and ripple-reduction methods.
  • Creative, flexible mindset and interest in a career in analog/mixed-signal IC design.

Education Requirements

Current enrollment as an MSc (Master's) student in Electronic/Electrical Engineering with emphasis on IC or analog design. (The posting specifies an MSc student in Electronic Engineering with IC design emphasis.)
