Job Title
Intern - NAND Device Engineering AI
Role Summary
Work as an AI / Data Science intern within the NAND Device Engineering team to apply machine learning and automation to accelerate device characterization, data analysis, and engineering decision-making for advanced 3D NAND technologies.
The role focuses on building AI-assisted workflows, scalable data pipelines, dashboards, and automation tools that improve the speed and quality of device engineering activities.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship intended for students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs. Preferably available for a semester-long internship; prior full-time industry experience is not required.
Responsibilities
Contribute an end-to-end intern project that delivers code, automation, documentation, and presentation-ready summaries. Typical duties include:
- Design and implement AI-powered automation for electrical characterization data extraction, analysis, reporting, and anomaly detection.
- Develop decision-support tools that synthesize large device datasets into prioritized, actionable recommendations for device optimization and experiment planning.
- Create automated data pipelines for extraction, cleaning, feature engineering, and integration across characterization and metrology sources.
- Apply machine learning (classification, regression, clustering) and deep learning techniques to automate pattern recognition, trend identification, and root-cause analysis.
- Explore and prototype LLM-based or agentic AI approaches for automating routine engineering workflows such as report generation and meeting summarization.
- Build interactive visualizations, dashboards, and auto-generated summary reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Implement automation and workflow orchestration (scripting, APIs, or orchestration tools) to reduce manual effort and speed analysis.
- Work independently with strong time management and deliver a complete project package including code/notebooks and documentation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and competencies to contribute effectively on day one:
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience building end-to-end data analysis or automation workflows.
- Hands-on experience or coursework in machine learning, deep learning, or AI applications using frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.
- Experience developing reproducible code/notebooks, data pipelines, and automation scripts.
- Ability to prototype ML/AI solutions, produce clear visualizations, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated, able to manage time and priorities, and deliver a complete intern project.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with workflow orchestration / automation tools (Airflow, Power Automate, etc.).
- Familiarity with LLMs, NLP, or agentic AI frameworks (LangChain or similar).
- Experience with SQL, dashboarding tools (Tableau, Power BI, Streamlit), cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), or big data tools (Spark).
- Exposure to semiconductor device physics, NAND flash memory, or electrical characterization.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field. Preferably available for a semester-long internship.
