Job Title
Intern - NAND Device Engineering AI
Role Summary
Internship within the NAND Device Engineering group to apply AI and data-science techniques to accelerate device characterization and automate analysis for advanced 3D NAND memory development. The role focuses on building AI-assisted decision-support tools, intelligent automation workflows, scalable data pipelines, and visualizations to increase engineering efficiency.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Intended for students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs; semester-long availability preferred.
Responsibilities
Primary project and day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Design and implement AI-powered automation workflows for electrical characterization data extraction, analysis, reporting, and anomaly detection.
- Build decision-support tools that synthesize large device datasets into prioritized, actionable recommendations for device optimization and experiment planning.
- Develop task and project management automations to track prioritization, status reporting, and follow-ups across engineering workstreams.
- Apply machine learning (classification, regression, clustering), deep learning, and NLP techniques to automate pattern recognition, trend detection, and root-cause analysis.
- Create automated ETL pipelines for extraction, cleaning, feature engineering, and integration of characterization and metrology data.
- Develop interactive dashboards and auto-generated summary reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Explore and prototype LLM-based or agentic AI approaches for automating routine engineering workflows (report generation, meeting summarization, knowledge retrieval).
- Deliver a complete intern project package including code/notebooks, automation tools, documentation, and presentation-ready summaries.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills for successful candidates.
-
Must-have: Strong proficiency in Python and experience building end-to-end data analysis or automation workflows.
-
Must-have: Demonstrated experience or coursework in machine learning, deep learning, or AI applications using frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
-
Preferred: Experience with automation and workflow orchestration tools (scripting pipelines, API integrations, Airflow, Power Automate, etc.).
-
Preferred: Familiarity with LLMs, NLP, or agentic AI frameworks for building intelligent assistants or automated workflows.
-
Preferred: Experience with SQL and data visualization/dashboard tools (Tableau, Power BI, Streamlit) for communicating results.
-
Nice-to-have: Exposure to semiconductor device physics, NAND flash memory, or electrical characterization.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) or big data tools (Spark, BigQuery).
- Ability to work independently with strong time-management and prioritization skills.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field. Semester-long internship availability is preferred.
