Intern Layout Analog Design
Role Summary
Six-month internship at Renesas Design Center in Catania working with the Performance Computing Power team. The role focuses on research and development of analog and mixed-signal circuit layout, with emphasis on Power Management ICs and Smart Power Stages for high-performance computing.
The intern will work alongside experienced engineers and receive technical guidance while developing layout skills and familiarity with industry tools and checks.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for a Bachelor's student (internship to complete Bachelor's degree). No specific years of work experience required.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on layout work, learning layout methodologies, and ensuring design compliance.
- Conceive and implement layouts for analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks.
- Work through layout steps: floorplanning, routing, DRC/LVS checks, and extraction.
- Study and apply layout techniques for matching, electromigration, and layout-related effects.
- Use and learn layout and verification tools (e.g., Cadence, Calibre, VXL).
- Ensure layout quality and compliance with specifications.
Requirements
Required technical knowledge and skills for the internship. Educational requirement appears below in Education Requirements.
- Basic electronics knowledge: CMOS and bipolar transistors, diodes, resistors, capacitors, inductors.
- Understanding of analog building blocks: voltage/current references, current mirrors, amplifiers, comparators, oscillators/clocking circuits, and digital gates.
- Good written and spoken English and effective communication skills.
- Familiarity with Cadence design environment is a plus.
Education Requirements
Enrollment in a Bachelor's program in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field; internship intended to complete the Bachelor's degree. (Six-month internship in Catania.)
