Intern - Firmware Engineer
Role Summary
Work on SSD firmware development within the SSD Engineering team to implement, test, and debug embedded firmware features that support Micron's storage products.
This internship provides hands-on experience in embedded systems, firmware development, debugging, test planning, and use of AI-assisted engineering tools while contributing to product performance and reliability.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). 0–2 years of relevant experience through internships, coursework, academic projects, or research.
Responsibilities
Primary tasks and contributions expected from the intern:
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to develop, test, and enhance SSD firmware features and functionality.
- Debug and resolve firmware issues to improve product performance, reliability, and quality.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate firmware behavior and support product qualification.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improvements in code quality and development processes.
- Document firmware features, updates, and technical details for stakeholders.
Requirements
Key skills and experience required or preferred for successful performance.
- Must-have: Proficiency in C/C++ programming from coursework, projects, internships, or research experience.
- Must-have: Basic understanding of embedded systems, firmware development, and software debugging concepts.
- Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; good written and verbal communication; ability to work in a team.
- Must-have: Experience using AI-enabled tools or large language models (e.g., Copilot, Claude) to support engineering work.
- Nice-to-have: Previous internship or project experience in firmware, embedded software, or systems engineering.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SSD technology, storage systems, or computer hardware architectures.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with development tools such as Git and JIRA, and scripting (Python) for automation or testing.
- Nice-to-have: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and returning to school following the internship. (Internship specifically targets students enrolled in undergraduate programs.)
