Job Title

Intern (f/m/d) β€” Embedded Software & Automotive Networking

Role Summary

Work as an intern on embedded software projects in the automotive domain focused on networking, communication stacks, and system-level debugging. You will collaborate with experienced engineers on real-world ECU software and networking challenges.

This role provides hands-on experience developing production-quality automotive software and debugging hardware/software interactions.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students (suitable for current degree candidates). No specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, debugging, and support activities for embedded automotive software.

  • Develop and maintain embedded C software for automotive ECUs.
  • Implement and integrate TCP/IP and communication stack code in LwIP, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or Linux environments.
  • Debug software and hardware issues using tools such as Lauterbach or P&E Micro; perform hardware bring-up support.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of software and hardware-related faults.
  • Support software design, documentation, and security-related tasks that may be in scope of certification.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in the internship.

  • Strong C programming skills for embedded systems (must-have).
  • Familiarity with OSI layers, AUTOSAR communication, and diagnostics concepts (must-have).
  • Experience with at least one RTOS or embedded OS: FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or Linux (must-have).
  • Experience with low-level debugging and hardware bring-up (must-have).
  • Good software design and analytical skills (must-have).
  • Experience with TCP/IP stacks (LwIP) and debug tools (Lauterbach, P&E Micro) is a plus.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Automotive Systems, or a closely related technical field. For internships based in Hamburg, the internship must be a mandatory part of the candidate's study program.
