Job Title

Intern (f/m/d) AI/ML Compiler Engineer

Role Summary

Internship on the MLIR-Compiler Team within NXP's AI IP and Solutions organization in Munich. Work on AI/ML compiler technologies to map and deploy neural networks onto NXP edge devices and heterogeneous systems.

Project work includes studying open-source compiler frameworks, implementing mapping methods, and integrating solutions to enable Edge AI applications.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current students; suitable for Master's students (preferred) or other students seeking practical experience in AI compilers and embedded systems.

Responsibilities

Primary project and team responsibilities include:

  • Research and work with open-source AI/ML compiler technologies (e.g., MLIR).
  • Design and implement methods to map AI workloads onto edge devices and heterogeneous systems.
  • Integrate compiler solutions into existing toolchains and validate deployments.
  • Develop software components in C/C++ and/or Python within Linux environments.
  • Collaborate with team members across sites and support colleagues, customers, and partners in Edge AI use cases.
  • Follow security-conscious processes; work may be in scope of security certifications.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ or Python.
  • Practical knowledge of embedded systems.
  • Experience working in Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with version control (git) and common development tools (e.g., VSCode).
  • Basic understanding of neural networks and frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
  • Ability to work independently with strong analytical and critical thinking.
  • Good English communication skills for multinational collaboration.

Nice-to-have:

  • First experience with AI compiler frameworks and/or Neural Processing Units (NPUs).

Education Requirements

The posting requests candidates who are currently pursuing their studies, specifically a Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field (Master preferred).
