Intern - Engineering (Applications)
Role Summary
Support the Applications team in reproducing and resolving customer system issues, developing embedded firmware and software, and preparing technical documentation. Work primarily on storage, host interfaces, and system bring-up for customers and partners in a part-time internship role.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Intended for current undergraduate students; no minimum years of professional experience required. Part-time schedule.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include lab work, debugging, documentation, and customer support.
- Assist with SAS, SATA, NVMe protocols, RAID controller firmware, OS drivers, and management software.
- Support PCIe, security, and encryption technologies.
- Assist with customer and ODM requirements, design-win support, and initial system bring-up activities.
- Support channel customers, ecosystem partners, and distribution teams.
- Set up and maintain system compatibility and debug lab environments.
- Perform embedded firmware debug, code updates, and developer testing.
- Document root causes and customer issues; maintain knowledge base and issue tracking.
- Develop customer-facing documentation: user guides, release notes, technical training, and application notes.
Requirements
Required technical skills and practical abilities for the role.
- Must-have: Coursework, academic projects, or internship experience in applications or software development.
- Must-have: Basic understanding of computer architecture.
- Must-have: Scripting or automation with Python, Java, Tcl, or similar.
- Must-have: Software programming experience in C and Java.
- Must-have: Experience installing Linux and Windows, and setting up hardware and drivers.
- Must-have: Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred: Driver development or embedded firmware experience; Java NetBeans or Tcl/Tk familiarity.
- Preferred: Familiarity with storage protocols (NVMe, SAS/SATA, SCSI, TCP/IP), high-speed design/signal integrity, and board-level debug & bring-up.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. Relevant coursework, academic projects, or prior internship experience in applications or software development is expected.
