Intern - Engineering (Applications)

Role Summary

Support the Applications Engineering team in the Data Center Solutions Business Unit by developing demos and tools, bringing up and debugging evaluation boards, setting up lab equipment, and assisting with embedded firmware debug and technical support.

Work involves lab-based analysis and reproduction of customer system issues, creating customer-facing collaterals, and demonstrating product features to internal teams and customers.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Intended for current undergraduate or graduate students; no prior years-of-experience required.

Responsibilities

The intern will perform hands-on lab and firmware tasks and support customer-facing activities.

  • Set up lab equipment and install OS, drivers, tools, debuggers, and analyzers.
  • Bring up and debug customer evaluation boards; perform board-level troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain customer collaterals, custom firmware, diagnostic and analysis tools.
  • Recreate, collect, analyze, debug and root-cause customer-reported problems in a lab environment.
  • Assist with embedded firmware development and driver-related debugging.
  • Perform performance and power measurements and analysis.
  • Provide product demonstrations and training to customers and internal teams; support industry events and trade shows.

Requirements

Must-have skills and abilities for successful performance in the role.

  • Basic understanding of computer architecture.
  • Programming experience in one or more: C, C++, TCL/Tk, Python, Java.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Nice-to-have technical experience:

  • Installing and configuring Linux and Windows OS, hardware, and drivers.
  • Familiarity with protocols/technologies such as NVMe, PCIe, SAS, SATA, Fibre Channel, Ethernet, DDR, NAND Flash, UART, SPI.
  • Board-level bring-up and debug experience; hardware design, schematics capture, or board layout exposure.
  • Experience with embedded firmware or driver development.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related engineering discipline.
