Intern - DRAM Design Rules

Role Summary

The DRAM Design Rules Intern contributes to development, validation, automation, and design enablement for DRAM design rules and methodologies. The role supports cross-functional teams (Design, CAD, Process Integration, Verification, Product Engineering) to ensure scalable, manufacturable memory designs.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students; suitable for current undergraduate or graduate students. No specific professional experience required beyond relevant coursework or projects.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on support for design rule development, validation, and automation.

  • Assist development, documentation, validation, and optimization of semiconductor design rules.
  • Develop automation, scripts, and workflows to improve design productivity and verification quality.
  • Perform design rule validation and analysis using EDA tools, simulation environments, and AI-supported analytics.
  • Collaborate with Design, CAD, Process Integration, Verification, and Product Engineering on technology features and manufacturability.
  • Support test chip planning, validation activities, and data analysis; apply AI to accelerate learning cycles and development methods.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional abilities.

  • Fundamental understanding of semiconductor devices, CMOS circuits, and semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Programming or scripting experience (Python, Tcl, Perl, or similar).
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate within multi-functional engineering teams.
  • Willingness to learn and apply EDA tools and physical verification methodologies.

Nice-to-have:

  • Coursework or project experience in VLSI, physical/layout design, DRC, physical verification, or device physics.
  • Experience with EDA platforms (Cadence Virtuoso, Calibre, Synopsys) and physical verification workflows (DRC, LVS, extraction).
  • Experience developing Python-based automation, data analytics, or AI/ML-assisted engineering tools.
  • Exposure to DRAM/HBM, test chip design, silicon characterization, or semiconductor validation methodologies.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline.
