Job Title

Intern - DRAM Architecture

Role Summary

The DRAM Systems & Architecture Lab researches and develops memory architectures for AI, cloud, data center, and high-performance computing platforms. The team combines modeling, simulation, AI-enabled workflows, and architectural analysis to evaluate and define future memory-system solutions.

This internship develops software frameworks, automation tools, simulation environments, and AI-assisted workflows to accelerate architecture research and design-space exploration for next-generation memory technologies.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for students or early-career candidates with approximately 0–2 years of relevant experience gained via research, internships, academic projects, publications, or engineering work.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include developing tools and workflows to support DRAM architecture research and performing analytical studies.

  • Develop and enhance software frameworks, simulation environments, and automation tools for DRAM architecture evaluation.
  • Design and implement AI-assisted workflows for experiment generation, automation, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Model and analyze memory architectures (e.g., DRAM, LPDDR, DDR6, MRDIMM, CAMM, emerging memories) using simulation and performance modeling.
  • Perform performance, power, bandwidth, latency, and workload characterization to identify trade-offs and optimization opportunities.
  • Collaborate with architects and researchers to document methods, present findings, and support research initiatives.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role.

  • Programming experience in Python, C++, or similar languages for software development, simulation, automation, or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with computer architecture, memory systems, performance analysis, modeling, simulation, or systems research.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI-enabled tools to improve productivity, analysis, and engineering workflows.
  • Experience using generative AI platforms such as Microsoft Copilot, GPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical communication, and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience developing AI agents, RAG systems, LLM-based engineering tools, or AI-assisted automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI workflow orchestration, prompt engineering, and automation frameworks.
  • Experience integrating AI into scientific computing, simulation platforms, or data analytics environments.
  • Knowledge of memory architectures (HBM, DRAM variants) and architectural simulators, performance modeling, benchmarking, or design-space exploration.
  • Research experience or publications, conference presentations, or patents in related technical fields.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
