Intern - Data Center SSD Firmware
Role Summary
The intern will work with the SSD Engineering team to develop, test, and optimize firmware for Micron's SSD products. The role involves hands-on embedded systems work, debugging, firmware validation, and using AI-enabled tools to improve engineering productivity.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Recommended 0β2 years of relevant experience from internships, coursework, research, or projects.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing and validating firmware, debugging issues, and contributing to software quality.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers to develop, test, and enhance SSD firmware features and functionality.
- Debug and resolve firmware issues to improve product performance, reliability, and quality.
- Create and execute test plans to validate firmware behavior and support product qualification.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and software quality.
- Use AI-enabled tools and workflows to automate tasks and accelerate firmware development.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed under Nice-to-have.
- Must-have: Programming experience in C/C++ (coursework, projects, internships, or research).
- Must-have: Basic understanding of embedded systems, computer architecture, operating systems, or firmware concepts.
- Must-have: Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Must-have: Familiarity with AI-enabled tools and large language models (e.g., Copilot, Claude) for engineering workflows.
- Nice-to-have: Previous internship, co-op, research, or project experience in firmware, embedded software, or systems engineering.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SSD technology, NAND flash memory, or storage protocols.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Git, JIRA, or similar development and project management tools.
- Nice-to-have: Scripting experience (Python) for automation, testing, or data analysis.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and must be returning to school following the internship.
