Intern - Compute System Compatibility Engineer
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Intern - Compute System Compatibility Engineer
Role Summary
Join Micron's System Enablement and Test Development teams to validate memory products on current and next-generation computing platforms. The intern will perform platform bring-up, system configuration, memory validation, test development, automation, data analysis, and AI-assisted engineering tasks under mentorship.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Candidates must be currently enrolled and returning to school in the fall term; the internship is a bounded summer assignment (approximately three months) with a defined technical project.
Responsibilities
Support platform validation and contribute to a defined internship project with measurable deliverables.
- Set up and support Intel, AMD, and ARM-based systems in Linux, Windows, and UEFI; document hardware, BIOS/firmware, OS, memory, and test configurations.
- Implement memory validation activities to assess compatibility, stability, reliability, and performance.
- Reproduce and triage failures, collect logs and diagnostics, use issue-tracking systems, and apply structured failure-analysis methods.
- Develop or refine automation and test code using Python, PowerShell, C++, or similar languages.
- Use approved AI-assisted tools to accelerate tasks (code generation, log analysis, documentation) while independently verifying outputs.
- Apply responsible AI practices: protect confidential data, use company-approved tools, document AI-assisted work when appropriate, and validate generated results.
- Collaborate with system enablement, test engineering, product, quality, and program teams; communicate findings, risks, and recommended next steps.
- Complete a bounded technical assignment with milestones, deliverables, documentation, and a final presentation.
Requirements
Core technical skills and practical experience required or strongly preferred for hands-on validation and automation work.
Must-have:
- Foundational knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and computer architecture.
- Programming or scripting experience via coursework, projects, or labs using Python, PowerShell, C++, or comparable languages.
- Basic ability to use AI-enabled tools for research, code support, or data analysis and to review outputs critically.
- Ability to follow test procedures, maintain accurate configuration records, analyze data, and summarize technical results.
- Interest in hands-on laboratory validation, system debug, test development, or engineering automation.
Nice-to-have / Preferred:
- Experience with DRAM, memory systems, BIOS/UEFI, firmware, server or client platforms, or hardware interfaces.
- Familiarity with x86 or ARM architectures and Intel/AMD/ARM-based platforms.
- Experience with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, or power measurement equipment.
- Experience applying generative AI, machine learning, automation, or data-analysis tools to engineering workflows.
- Clear written and verbal communication, attention to detail, adaptability, and teamwork.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field. Must be enrolled and continuing education in the fall term following the internship; expected graduation date must not be before September of the same year. Equivalent practical experience is not listed as an alternative.
