Role Summary
This is a paid student internship within the Client AI (Movidius NPU) organization working on neural processing unit (NPU) hardware and software. Interns will join teams focused on physical design, RTL, verification, architecture, software, compiler toolchains, pre‑silicon models, emulation, and automation to contribute to NPU product development.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for students. Candidates must be available for a 6–8 month placement in 2027 (preferred start between January and June).
Responsibilities
Internship tasks vary by team. Typical responsibilities include:
- Implement and verify RTL, IP blocks, or hardware interfaces (RTL teams).
- Support physical design activities including layout and design verification.
- Develop and execute hardware IP verification and qualification tests.
- Contribute to hardware architecture analysis and performance evaluation.
- Develop software drivers, firmware, or NPU toolchain components.
- Work on compiler optimization for the OpenVINO toolchain and inference performance.
- Create pre‑silicon models and integrate them into virtual platforms for simulation.
- Build and validate FPGA/emulation platforms and pre‑silicon models (emulation team).
- Develop infrastructure and automation to support design and verification flows.
- Evaluate AI application use cases and assist with performance characterization.
Requirements
Required competencies and logistical requirements for candidates:
- Currently enrolled student (see Education Requirements for degree expectations).
- Availability for a 6–8 month internship in 2027, preferred start Jan–Jun.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to define tasks and direction when needed.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Level 8 or Level 9 college course (Ireland) such as Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent degree program. "Level 8/9" corresponds to undergraduate/postgraduate degree levels; equivalent technical courses are acceptable.
