Job Title

Integrated Photonics Engineer

Role Summary

Support characterization and validation of integrated photonic circuits used in a silicon-photonics quantum computing platform. Work with circuit designers and system engineers to design and run experiments, automate measurements, and analyze results to improve device performance and testing throughput.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects several years of hands-on experimental experience in integrated optics and photonic measurement; no specific years-of-experience range was provided.

Responsibilities

Design, run, and analyze experiments to validate integrated photonic circuits and switching elements across wavelengths and operating conditions.

  • Design and execute optical experiments for circuit characterization across multiple wavelengths.
  • Characterize optical switch performance (insertion loss, crosstalk, switching speed) across operating conditions.
  • Test devices containing directional couplers, interferometers (MZI/AMZI), modulators, and phase shifters.
  • Develop automated experimental control and data-acquisition workflows (Python preferred).
  • Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and produce detailed reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with design teams to troubleshoot failures and improve future circuit iterations.
  • Contribute to scalable, high-throughput testing methodologies for wafer-scale photonic systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role.

  • Strong experimental background in integrated optics and photonic circuit characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with directional couplers, interferometers (MZI/AMZI), phase shifters, and modulators.
  • Proficiency in Python for experiment automation and data analysis.
  • Experience with complex optical measurement setups and laboratory testing equipment.
  • Ability to develop automated control and data-acquisition systems and to document procedures and results.
  • Effective collaboration and troubleshooting skills with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have: industry experience in photonics or semiconductor device testing; familiarity with electro-optic and thermo-optic tuning; understanding of optical switching architectures and their performance metrics; wafer-scale or high-throughput testing experience; knowledge of quantum optics or photonic quantum systems.

Education Requirements

PhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (the posting specifies a PhD in these areas). Related technical fields are acceptable per the job text.
