Instrumentation & Controls Designer
Role Summary
Arcadis is hiring an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer to support semiconductor tool install projects. The role focuses on I&C design deliverables, control system interfaces, and coordination with engineering disciplines, subcontractors, and clients for successful tool installations.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires 2β4 years of relevant I&C experience depending on education and prior roles.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
- Develop and interpret loop sheets, data sheets, instrument types/applications, PID algorithms, ISA symbology, and P&ID documentation.
- Design and specify system interlocks and pneumatic instrumentation controls for tool installs.
- Work with PLC, DCS, SCADA and communications protocols (Ethernet, serial, Modbus, fiber optic) to define control interfaces.
- Produce deliverables using AutoCAD and manage related documentation using Excel and Word.
- Coordinate integration with other disciplines, subcontractors, and clients to ensure complete system functionality during tool installation.
- Participate in team meetings and site coordination; wear required PPE on client sites.
- Perform other assigned duties and learn new aspects of I&C engineering as needed.
Requirements
Minimum technical and logistical requirements (education summarized separately):
- Demonstrated experience with tool install design in the semiconductor industry.
- Proficiency in basic PLC programming and P&ID development using AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with instrument types/applications and ISA symbology.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; able to collaborate across teams and software platforms.
- Technical capability consistent with I&C technician-level duties when required.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and willingness to learn.
- Ability to provide legal US work authorization documentation.
Education Requirements
Either: High school diploma plus a minimum of 4 years of I&C technician experience; OR a BS in Electrical Engineering with at least 2 years employed as an I&C Engineer. (No other degree fields or certifications specified.)
