Job Title

IC Layout Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Work with experienced layout engineers to learn and implement transistor-level and block-level layout for high-performance analog and mixed-signal ICs using BiCMOS technologies. The role focuses on layout implementation, verification, matching techniques, floor planning and understanding the full IC flow through mask generation.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for undergraduate engineering students. The posting expects students who have completed 4–5 semesters of a Bachelor program.

Responsibilities

Main day-to-day tasks and learning objectives:

  • Implement physical layout of analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks using Cadence Virtuoso XL.
  • Perform transistor-level layout and apply analog matching techniques at block level.
  • Participate in floor planning and align block-level definitions with top-level requirements.
  • Execute layout verification including Design Rule Check (DRC) and Layout vs. Schematic (LVS).
  • Learn database structure, revision control practices, and the complete IC design-to-mask flow.

Requirements

Core skills and attributes expected for successful candidates. Education details are listed separately below.

  • Basic knowledge of semiconductor technology and electronic circuits.
  • Willingness to learn, ability to work independently, and strong teamwork skills.
  • Good troubleshooting and debugging ability.
  • Comfortable using Linux; scripting or programming experience is expected.
  • Good written and spoken English; German is a plus.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with IC layout tools (Cadence IC Design Suite) and prior experience working on technical projects on time.

Education Requirements

The posting specifies completion of 4–5 semesters of a Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering. It also references Master's students (with a note about separate design internships) and the job metadata includes a generic "High School Graduate" label. Equivalent practical experience is not explicitly described.
