IC Design Intern (IPG Group)
Role Summary
The IC Design Intern will learn and assist with analog and digital mixed-signal IC design for high-speed communication circuits used in datacenter and cloud applications. The role is based in the IP Group at Cadence Ireland (Galway) and focuses on practical training within an industry R&D team.
You will use Cadence tools to design, simulate and implement basic circuits and participate in team design activities and reviews.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Targeted at current students; no prior professional experience required.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the IC design team through hands-on tasks and learning activities:
- Design and simulate basic analog and digital IC circuits for high-speed communication links.
- Use Spectre for circuit simulation and Virtuoso for schematic/layout tasks.
- Implement layout and run basic verification and simulation flows under guidance.
- Participate in design reviews and team meetings; present findings and progress.
- Document design work, test results and follow established design methodologies.
- Support debugging and analysis of circuit performance and signal integrity.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications:
- Must-have: Strong interest in analog and digital IC design, signal processing, telecommunications or control theory.
- Must-have: Basic circuit theory and laboratory/coursework experience relevant to IC design.
- Nice-to-have: Coursework or project experience with high-speed communication circuits, mixed-signal design, or Cadence tooling.
- Nice-to-have: Effective communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (EEE).
