Job Title

Engineering Intern - I2C Controller Verification (UVM, Formal, AI)

Role Summary

Internship on the digital verification team to improve the verification flow for an I2C controller. The role focuses on implementing and enhancing UVM-based testbenches, writing formal properties, and prototyping AI/ML techniques to accelerate verification.

The intern will work with verification engineers and RTL designers to develop tests, debug issues, and produce verification metrics and documentation.

Experience Level

Entry-level (internship). Intended for current engineering students or recent graduates; typically 0–1 years of professional experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building verification infrastructure, applying formal methods, and exploring AI-assisted verification techniques.

  • Develop and maintain UVM SystemVerilog testbenches for the I2C controller.
  • Define and track verification plans and coverage metrics.
  • Write assertions and formal properties; run formal checks and analyze counterexamples.
  • Prototype AI/ML methods to assist test generation, coverage closure, or bug classification.
  • Debug RTL behavior with simulation and formal tools; collaborate with RTL designers to root-cause issues.
  • Automate verification tasks with scripting (e.g., Python, shell) and integrate with CI where applicable.
  • Document results, produce reports, and present findings to the team.

Requirements

Technical skills and experience expected for effective contribution; education expectations are listed separately below.

  • Must-have: Knowledge of digital design and RTL concepts; experience with SystemVerilog and UVM or equivalent verification methodologies.
  • Must-have: Practical experience with scripting (Python, shell) for automation and data processing.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with formal verification concepts or tools (writing assertions/properties, interpreting results).
  • Must-have: Understanding of common serial protocols, preferably I2C or similar bus protocols.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior exposure to machine learning/AI applied to verification or test generation.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with simulation flows, debug tools, and continuous integration for verification.
  • Good communication skills; ability to work in a small team and present technical results concisely.

Education Requirements

Internship level: enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience also acceptable.
