IC CAD Engineer
Role Summary
Support and improve AMD's custom IC CAD flows with a focus on Cadence Virtuoso, LEF generation, and Calibre PDK. Work with CAD team members and vendors to verify and enable tools for new technologies and provide cross-site user support and training.
Primary location: San Jose, CA (open to Austin, TX). Hybrid role. Not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities
Deliver and maintain CAD infrastructure, validate flows for new process nodes, and improve designer productivity through tooling and AI enhancements.
- Set up and maintain Cadence Virtuoso schematic and layout features.
- Develop and maintain LEF generation flow.
- Develop and maintain the Calibre PDK and related verification flows.
- Work with vendors and designers to evaluate and deploy new CAD features.
- Build regression testbenches to ensure CAD tool and flow quality.
- Provide technical support and training to users across multiple sites and time zones.
- Integrate AI agents to accelerate the design cycle and improve CAD user experience.

- Must-have: Practical experience supporting IC CAD flows (Cadence Virtuoso or equivalent) and familiarity with layout and schematic environments.
- Must-have: Experience with LEF/abstract generation processes and Calibre-based PDK/verification flows.
- Must-have: Proficiency in scripting for CAD automation (Cadence SKILL and Perl).
- Must-have: Experience building regression testbenches and providing cross-site user support.
- Nice-to-have: Experience creating or integrating AI agents (e.g., Claude Code or equivalent) to enhance CAD tooling.
- Nice-to-have: Prior vendor engagement for tool evaluation and deployment.
- Ability to collaborate across time zones and deliver training and documentation to designers.
- Work authorization: this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work where the role is based.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
