Job Title

HSIO ATE Test Development and Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Post-Silicon Engineering group developing manufacturing test solutions and characterization for high-speed serial I/O (HSIO/SERDES) on advanced SoC products. Work focuses on defining and executing test methodologies, creating ATE test routines, and characterizing PHY performance across operating conditions.

The role requires driving first-silicon debug and failure analysis, analyzing manufacturing yields, and working with IC design, systems, process, hardware applications, and customer engineering teams to reduce test time and improve product quality.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical candidates have a minimum of 2+ years of hardware engineering or related test development experience; preferred experience is 3–5 years in related areas.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Define and execute characterization and manufacturing test methodologies for HSIO interfaces (SERDES, PCIe, USB, UFS, MIPI, DisplayPort, etc.).
  • Develop ATE tests, routines and programs to implement test plans and validate PHY functionality.
  • Create characterization and test plans; identify DFT and test hardware requirements.
  • Drive first-silicon bring-up, debug failures, coordinate failure analysis, and follow issues to resolution.
  • Perform technical data analysis of parametric performance across operating conditions and configurations.
  • Analyze high-volume manufacturing yields and implement test-time and yield improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally under time-critical schedules and document test results and processes.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills.

  • Must-have: Hands-on hardware engineering or test development experience, including ATE test creation and device-level characterization; strong problem solving and debugging skills; clear verbal and written communication; ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with programming or scripting for test automation (C/C++/Perl or similar) and test debug.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with HSIO PHY characterization/validation, loopback or compliance testing for protocols such as PCIe, USB, UFS, MIPI.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of VLSI, CMOS analog/digital/mixed-signal design, semiconductor physics, signal integrity analysis, and test platforms such as Advantest 93K.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience developing test automation, scripting, and debug tools.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications specify a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in the same fields with 1+ year of related experience; OR a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Master’s in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
