Job Title

High-Speed SerDes & Mixed-Signal Validation Engineer

Role Summary

The Hardware and Silicon Validation team in Marvell's Connectivity Business Group develops electrical and optical test platforms, benches and measurement methods for high-speed and optical interconnect products. This role will design and deliver test platforms, PCBs and automated benches for a VCSEL-based optical interconnect program and work with multidisciplinary teams and external vendors to bring up, validate and characterize electro-optical products.

Experience Level

Senior - experienced engineer; see Education Requirements for degree-related experience thresholds.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Define, design and own electrical and optical test platforms and benches from requirements through bring-up and validation.
  • Design evaluation and characterization PCBs, test fixtures and adapters, including schematic, stack-up, SI/PI, layout, fabrication and assembly follow-up.
  • Develop measurement techniques for optical links and high-speed electrical interfaces; evaluate and specify instruments.
  • Bring up, debug and characterize electro-optical chiplets and products; execute validation plans from first silicon to tape-out.
  • Qualify optics vendor samples and correlate results across vendors and labs.
  • Automate instrument control, data collection and analysis (Python) and produce test plans and characterization reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Hands-on experience with high-speed electrical lab instruments: real-time and sampling oscilloscopes, BERT, VNA/TDR, AWG, spectrum analyzers.
  • Hands-on optical lab experience: optical power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, high-speed photoreceivers, fiber handling and optical alignment.
  • Bench automation and instrument control (Python, SCPI/VISA/GPIB) and data-analysis skills (Python, MATLAB, JMP, or R).
  • Working knowledge of high-speed board design: reading schematics/layouts, SI/PI, transmission-line fundamentals, PCB materials, fabrication and assembly; experience with OrCAD/Allegro or equivalent.
  • Strong fundamentals in communication systems and analog/digital circuit troubleshooting.
  • Proven ownership of complex platform or board projects and ability to mentor junior staff; effective communication in English.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with electro-optical VCSEL-based interconnects and optical vendor qualification.
  • Experience with automated test benches and lab calibration across sites.

Education Requirements

Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering or a related field preferred. The posting specifies experience thresholds tied to degree: 6+ years of related experience with a Master's/PhD, or 9+ years with a Bachelor's.
