Job Title

Head of Silicon Product Engineering

Role Summary

Lead the silicon product engineering function responsible for taking Normal’s custom AI silicon from tape-out through high-volume manufacturing. You will build the team, vendor relationships, and processes for packaging, test, post-silicon validation, yield learning, qualification, and production calibration for memory products.

Experience Level

Senior - requires extensive senior-level experience in semiconductor product and test engineering (see Requirements).

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end post-silicon and manufacturing readiness activities, establish vendor and process strategy, and build the organization and data practices needed to move designs into reliable production at scale.

  • Own post-silicon bring-up, characterization, validation, and debug across multiple silicon generations.
  • Define and drive packaging and test strategy, including ATE program development and test condition optimization for yield, quality, and performance.
  • Select, qualify, and manage OSAT and test-house partners through NPI and into high-volume manufacturing; manage cost, quality, and yield negotiations.
  • Lead yield learning and qualification from early silicon through production ramp; perform root-cause analysis of failures.
  • Define production calibration and screening methodology for memory products to meet performance and reliability targets at volume.
  • Build and lead a high-performing silicon product engineering organization, including hiring, processes, and tooling.
  • Partner with design, architecture, and supply chain teams to ensure producibility, testability, and cost/yield optimization early in the design cycle.
  • Establish data analysis practices for wafer acceptance, sort, package, and system-level test to detect failure mechanisms early.

Requirements

Core qualifications and experience required; bonus items listed separately.

  • Must-have: 15+ years in semiconductor product/test engineering with direct ownership of silicon from NPI through high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proven experience selecting, qualifying, and managing OSAT and foundry partners, including cost, quality, and yield negotiations.
  • Deep hands-on background in packaging, ATE program development, and post-silicon bring-up and validation.
  • Experience designing and implementing production test and screening methodology for complex, high-reliability products.
  • Track record of building and scaling engineering teams at early stage.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with design, architecture, and supply chain organizations.
  • Experience building data infrastructure and analysis practices for characterization and manufacturing data.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience bringing up test and qualification for new or unconventional silicon architectures.
  • Experience with memory-adjacent product engineering (DRAM, HBM, custom memory modules).
  • Experience at AI or high-performance compute startups with rapid iteration between design, verification, and product engineering.
  • Comfort operating where test methodology is being invented alongside hardware.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
