Senior Staff, FPGA Engineer
CelesticaJob Title
Senior Staff, FPGA Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver FPGA-based hardware platform solutions as a subject matter expert on the design and development team. Responsible for the full FPGA development flow from specification through on-board validation, and for collaborating with hardware, software, and cross-functional teams to ensure robust product delivery.
Experience Level
Senior level - requires a minimum of 12+ years of FPGA design engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture collaboration, design implementation, verification, and board-level bring-up.
- Work with platform architects, board designers, and software teams to define FPGA architecture and requirements.
- Create design specifications and drive device selection.
- Develop RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog), module-level verification, and test cases; ensure on-time delivery of RTL designs.
- Lead back-end FPGA implementation: constraints, floor-planning, and timing closure.
- Perform FPGA validation and debug on hardware boards; resolve integration issues with hardware and software.
- Mentor and review work of junior design engineers and collaborate across functional teams.
- Provide accurate project schedule estimates and maintain delivery timelines.
- Occasional travel as required for project support or collaboration.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and behaviors for successful performance.
- Minimum 12+ years of FPGA design engineering experience.
- Proven expertise with Xilinx and Intel (Altera) FPGAs; experience with Lattice CPLD/FPGAs is a plus.
- Strong RTL design skills in Verilog and SystemVerilog; experience with FPGA toolflows (Vivado, Quartus, ISE, ModelSim, etc.).
- Experience with high-speed serial protocols (PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, LVDS) and common low-speed interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, LPC, MDIO).
- Familiarity with verification methodologies: UVM constrained-random, assertion-based verification, and functional coverage.
- Excellent hands-on debugging, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask across multiple projects and provide accurate schedule estimates.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. A Master’s degree is preferred.
