Job Title
Hardware Verification Engineer
Role Summary
The Hardware Verification Engineer performs pre- and post-silicon validation of mixed-signal integrated circuits for the Sensing Product Group in San Diego. The role covers FPGA prototyping, hardware emulation, lab test and measurement, IC bring-up, firmware-hardware debug, characterization, and failure analysis.
The engineer will collaborate with design, verification, product/test, and applications teams to create test plans, automate measurements and analysis, and deliver characterization reports supporting verification closure.
Experience Level
Mid-level β the posting requests 5+ years of industry experience in hardware and software validation (typical mid-career range: ~3β7 years).
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include planning and executing validation activities across pre- and post-silicon phases.
- Validate pre-silicon and post-silicon hardware and firmware to meet specifications.
- Define, debug, and operate FPGA prototyping platforms for emulation and validation.
- Lead silicon validation test plans, develop lab and evaluation setups, drive bring-up and debug.
- Develop automated tests, instrument drivers, and scripts for validation and data capture.
- Execute analog and mixed-signal characterization across corners and correlate measured vs. expected results.
- Design and build fixtures and components to support lab validation.
- Analyze findings, perform root-cause analysis, and report issues to design teams.
- Author test plans, characterization reports, and technical documentation for reviews.
- Provide technical support to test, product, and applications engineering teams.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience.
- 5+ years industry experience in hardware and software validation.
- Hands-on experience with lab instruments and measurement methods (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, supplies, multimeters).
- Experience with IC bring-up, pre- and post-silicon validation, and digital systems.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages (Python); experience in SW development and embedded systems.
- Familiarity with standard hardware protocols (I2C, I3C, SPI, MIPI, GPIB, JTAG, PCIe).
- Exposure to development boards, processors/microcontrollers, and FPGAs (e.g., Xilinx/Vivado).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to work independently and in teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with AI-assisted coding tools and workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude).
- Experience with MCU-based systems (ARM, RISC-V, PIC, STM32) and RTL (SystemVerilog, Verilog, VHDL).
- Familiarity with MATLAB, version control (Git), and scripted regression frameworks.
- Comfort with analog/mixed-signal circuit concepts and lab testing techniques.
Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
Estimated pay range: $94,000 - $134,000 per year.
