Hardware Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Release to Production (RTP) team to validate and stabilize Meta server hardware before production deployment. The role focuses on hands-on system and hardware debugging, stress testing, automated provisioning, monitoring, and remediation across pre-production and production lifecycles.

Work with hardware designers, ODMs, component vendors, capacity and production engineering, Meta services, and data center operations to ensure servers meet production readiness and maintain server health in production.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically experienced engineers; this role requests approximately 6+ years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities center on pre-production validation, system-level debugging, and improving hardware reliability and test quality.

• Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external ODMs/vendors to move projects from NPI to mass production.
• Review and validate test plans with ODMs; ensure test execution quality and adherence to schedule.
• Analyze test results and lead system-level debugging with ODMs and vendors to isolate failures.
• Create experiments and tooling to detect and diagnose hardware, firmware, and software health issues.
• Troubleshoot, root-cause system failures and isolate failing components or scenarios.
• Develop visibility through data visualization and implement systemic solutions to recurring hardware health issues.
• Communicate project validation and issue investigation status to internal stakeholders.
• Drive discussions on test specifications and methodologies to continuously improve test quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in the role.

• 6+ years of hardware system experience with knowledge of CPU, GPU, NIC, DDR, and related components.
• Proven system/rack-level debug and troubleshooting experience with a systematic approach.
• Experience through full lifecycle for server and data center products (development to production).
• 2+ years working with Linux and scripting.
• Experience changing system configurations and measuring the impact of those changes.
• Fluent in English for daily cross-functional and external communication.

Nice-to-have:

• 4+ years scripting automation experience (Python, PHP, or Perl).
• 4+ years experience with full system technologies, including PCIe.
• Familiarity with lab equipment: protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, airflow chambers.
• 2+ years supporting 24x7 production at scale (example scales provided in source).
• ASIC development experience (silicon bring-up, characterization) and experience across HW and FW on server products.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
