Job Title

Hardware Systems Design Engineer

Role Summary

As a Systems Design Engineer on AMD's Systems Design Engineering team, you will define product-level solutions, support ODM/OEM customers, and drive scalable, automated methods to integrate AMD processors into networking and storage platforms. The role performs hardware bring-up, validation, and cross-functional debugging in support of product delivery in San Jose, CA or Austin, TX.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not specify years of experience but expects demonstrated hands-on hardware design and debugging expertise.

Responsibilities

The engineer will provide customer-facing technical guidance, diagnose hardware issues, and develop solutions and automation to improve platform integration and quality.

  • Advise ODM/OEM customers on integrating AMD processors: architecture and schematic reviews, design-in support, and customer training.
  • Analyze, debug, and perform root-cause analysis on processor-enabled platforms; coordinate with development teams to implement fixes.
  • Execute hardware bring-up, validation, and high-speed signal testing.
  • Develop and deploy scalable automation and apply AI tools/methodologies to improve troubleshooting efficiency.
  • Document results and communicate technical issues and resolutions to customers and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and logistical constraints. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Must-have:

  • Hands-on experience designing and debugging hardware issues on SoC and x86 platforms.
  • Experience with DDR4/DDR5, LPDDR4/5, U/R/LR DIMM JEDEC standards, PCIe Gen4/Gen5, and Ethernet (1/2.5/10G).
  • Knowledge of signal integrity and power-delivery network principles and experience using high-speed test equipment (oscilloscope, JBERT).
  • Familiarity with programming/scripting (C/C++, Python, Perl, or similar) and with Server OSes (Linux, Windows Server).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience advising ODM/OEM customers or providing design-in support and training.
  • Expertise in hardware architecture, logic/circuit design and implementation.
  • Prior experience integrating AI tools into debugging or engineering workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
