Digital Signal Processing Engineer
SemtechJob Title
Digital Signal Processing Engineer
Role Summary
Design, model and validate PHY-layer signal-processing algorithms for modem IP blocks as part of the Wireless and LoRa System teams. Work spans algorithm development, reference modelling in Matlab, bit-accurate C modelling and contributions to RTL implementation.
Collaborate with digital design and radio validation teams to transition algorithms into silicon and ensure performance under real channel conditions.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires about 3+ years of relevant experience in DSP algorithm development for wireless communication systems.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include algorithm design, simulation, implementation support and technical documentation.
- Design and refine PHY-layer algorithms (modulation/demodulation, synchronization, channel estimation, filtering, FEC) and maintain Matlab floating-point and fixed-point reference models.
- Simulate and analyze modem performance under AWGN, fading and interference; evaluate BER/PER, sensitivity and robustness.
- Develop bit-accurate C models and contribute to RTL implementation in SystemVerilog; support fixed-point conversion and implementation trade-off analysis.
- Support radio validation teams to correlate lab measurements with simulation models and iterate on algorithm improvements.
- Monitor state-of-the-art DSP and wireless techniques and assess applicability to the product roadmap.
- Produce clear algorithm specifications, simulation reports and performance analyses for stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- 3+ years of experience in DSP algorithm development for wireless communication systems.
- Strong proficiency in Matlab for algorithm modelling, simulation and performance analysis.
- Hands-on experience with RTL design (SystemVerilog) and bit-accurate C modelling for signal-processing blocks.
- Solid understanding of wireless PHY principles: modulation, synchronization, channel estimation and FEC.
- Rigorous analytical mindset with strong mathematical foundations.
- Good communication and collaboration skills in an international environment.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with low-power wireless technologies (LoRa, BLE, FSK).
- Understanding of fixed-point implementation constraints and hardware design trade-offs.
- Familiarity with RF instruments (vector signal generators, spectrum and signal analyzers).
Education Requirements
MSc or PhD in Signal Processing, Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
