Hardware/Software Co-Design Engineer

Role Summary

Deliver micro-architecture and RTL implementations of digital IP and systems for low-power, high-throughput DSPs and general-purpose hardware accelerators used in neural recording and stimulation SoCs. Work within a cross-functional team that includes firmware, verification, and physical-design engineers to produce silicon-ready subsystems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Micro-architecture design and RTL implementation for low-power DSPs and hardware accelerators.
• Design and optimize hardware/software interfaces with firmware engineers.
• Develop emulation models, transactors, and test environments to replicate hardware behavior.
• Perform system-level energy and performance modeling, workload analysis, and profiling.
• Architect on-chip interconnects, MAC/PHY, and serial link interfaces as required by the product.
• Make architecture-level trade-offs that balance cost, performance, and manufacturing process variation.
• Collaborate on silicon bring-up, verification, and debugging with verification and test teams.

Requirements

Must-have:

• Expertise in SystemVerilog and RTL design flows.
• Experience with embedded software development in C or Rust.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience creating emulation models and test environments for hardware verification.
• Experience designing complex digital systems from architecture through RTL using industry-standard tools.
• Experience designing DSP pipelines from algorithm through RTL.

Nice-to-have:

• Architecture optimization involving process-technology customization.
• Verification and physical-design experience for complex digital systems.
• Experience with silicon bring-up, testing, and debugging of SoCs.
• Functional modeling experience with SystemC/C++ and automation of EDA tool flows.
• Processor ISA design or compiler back-end development experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
