Hardware & Silicon Validation, Senior Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Senior staff engineer responsible for silicon bring-up, functional validation, electrical characterization, and system-level validation of high-speed SerDes and related hardware. The role works on analog validations for amplifiers and silicon photonics, supports coherent digital signal programming, and collaborates with design, firmware, and software teams to deliver production-ready silicon.

This role may require export-control eligibility. Candidates should note that AI tools are not permitted during interviews.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. Target experience: approximately 8–10 years in high-speed I/O testing, debugging, and validation (source indicates 8–10 years; master’s-level candidates noted with 6–8 years).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include end-to-end validation and characterization of high-speed interfaces and related hardware.

• Plan and execute silicon bring-up, functional validation, and electrical characterization of SerDes and PHY/MAC interfaces.
• Perform system-level validation, interoperability and protocol compliance testing across operating conditions.
• Validate analog blocks and amplifiers, and perform silicon photonics and upper electronic measurements.
• Lead lab bring-up, system testing, debugging, and failure analysis.
• Develop validation automation and data-analysis scripts; integrate results into team workflows.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, firmware, and software teams to ensure production readiness.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

• Strong understanding of high-speed SerDes architectures and equalization techniques.
• Experience with PCIe protocol and high-speed I/O testing, debugging, and validation.
• Hands-on lab skills for system bring-up, test, and hardware debug.
• Familiarity with SerDes characterization equipment (oscilloscopes, BERTs, network analyzers).
• Experience developing validation automation and performing data analysis with scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, or similar).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and English communication skills (written and oral).

Nice-to-have / preferred:

• Experience with Ethernet, SAS/SATA SerDes, or additional high-speed interfaces.
• Knowledge of physical and protocol layers (PIPE interface, PCS, MAC) and SerDes modeling techniques.
• Ability to read board schematics and understand board layout.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with ~8–10 years relevant experience, or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with ~6–8 years relevant experience, in domains such as pre/post-silicon validation, stress and PVT testing. (Degrees and years of experience specified in source.)
