Job Title

Hardware & Silicon Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Develop firmware, test suites and validation plans for SoC and subsystem silicon validation, focusing on analog validations, silicon photonics and high-bandwidth interfaces. Work in a lab environment to perform bring-up, debug hardware/firmware/driver interactions, and produce validation reports while collaborating with design, firmware, board and DV teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical guidance from the employer: 3–5 years professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 2–3 years with a Master's degree.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop firmware to validate IPs such as security IPs, DMA and boot sequences.
  • Create and execute comprehensive SoC validation plans covering functional, performance and compliance testing.
  • Perform SoC and subsystem bring-up, boot validation and end-to-end system verification for multiprocessor architectures.
  • Validate and debug SoC interfaces (SAS, SATA, UFS, USB, DDR, SPI, I2C, UART).
  • Develop and maintain firmware, test code and Linux drivers to support validation activities.
  • Develop validation test suites and automation frameworks using C, C++, Python and Rust.
  • Debug issues across hardware, firmware, OS and driver layers and drive resolution with cross-functional teams.
  • Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, emulators) for validation and debugging.
  • Ensure protocol compliance and produce detailed validation reports.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience:

  • Strong C and C++ software development skills and embedded software experience.
  • Proficient with Linux and low-level driver/firmware integration.
  • Familiarity with ARM/RISC microprocessor or SoC architectures.
  • Experience developing firmware, test code and automation for validation workflows.
  • Demonstrated debugging skills across hardware and software layers.
  • Familiarity with lab tools: emulators, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and protocol analyzers.
  • Experience with test automation using Python; Rust experience is a plus.
  • Nice-to-have: working knowledge of SAS, SATA, UFS, USB and security IPs (e.g., Caliptra); prior security IP validation experience is advantageous.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software, Computer or Electrical Engineering. The posting specifies typical experience ranges: 3–5 years with a Bachelor's or 2–3 years with a Master's.
