Job Title

Hardware Masters Engineering Internships

Role Summary

Interns will support electrical and system design, integration, implementation, testing, and qualification of electrical sub-systems for consumer products (e.g., Vision Pro, iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac).

Assignments span camera/touch/display, wireless/RF, ASIC/VLSI, system development, audio/acoustics, embedded systems, firmware, and quality engineering; work is project-based under engineering team guidance.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship. Intended for students currently enrolled in a master's program (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Support electrical and system-level design, integration, and validation of hardware subsystems.
  • Design and execute experiments for optics, display, touch, and mechanical components; prototype and optimize for performance and reliability.
  • Perform ASIC/VLSI tasks such as RTL design, verification, emulation, STA, physical design support, low-power and signal-integrity analysis.
  • Assist with RF/antenna design, system-level RF validation, and automation tools for RF testing.
  • Develop and test embedded firmware, device drivers, and low-level microcontroller code; use FPGAs for design verification and prototyping.
  • Support audio and acoustics hardware development, system integration, noise/vibration testing, and user studies related to hearing and audio features.
  • Capture schematics, resolve hardware bugs, and support system-level test and qualification activities.
  • Contribute to CAD, DFT, and quality engineering tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum technical skills and expectations:

  • Coursework or hands-on experience in digital logic, RTL/FPGA design, or hardware verification.
  • Familiarity with ASIC/VLSI concepts: verification, STA, physical design, low-power techniques, or CAD flows is desirable.
  • Experience or coursework in embedded systems and low-level firmware development (C, microcontrollers, FPGA prototyping).
  • Practical skills in schematic capture, hardware prototyping, lab testing, and debugging hardware issues.
  • Domain knowledge relevant to placement: optics/display, RF/antenna systems, audio/acoustics, analog/mixed-signal, or system integration.
  • Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical results clearly.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with automation tools, emulation, power/tech analysis, signal integrity, and DFT methodologies.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field. Candidates must return to school after the internship or the internship must be the final requirement for graduation.
