Job Title

Hardware Failure Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Lead field hardware quality and failure analysis for Synopsys HAV products. Own root-cause investigations, coordinate repairs and supplier failure analysis, and drive design-for-reliability and serviceability improvements.

Work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, test, field support and engineering teams to reduce field failures and improve product MTBF through data-driven mitigation and process improvements.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 7–10 years of experience in hardware failure analysis and/or manufacturing test engineering.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include monitoring field quality, performing failure analysis, driving containment and corrective actions, and scaling FA processes globally.

  • Manage field hardware quality metrics (RMA rates, MTBF, reliability) for HAV products.
  • Own failure analysis of returned hardware, meet FA SLAs, and ensure accurate FA records.
  • Analyze RMA/FA/repair data to identify trends and create quality excursions; collaborate on resolution plans.
  • Drive containment and mitigation plans for quality alerts; troubleshoot from system to PCBA/mechanical component level.
  • Conduct component-level troubleshooting and repairs with supply-chain partners; review and approve FA results.
  • Publish external-facing Failure Analysis reports and present findings to stakeholders, including senior management and support teams.
  • Enhance and automate FA testing and reporting; deploy standardized FA processes at global suppliers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical capabilities.

  • Strong background in PCBA design, system test, and hands-on hardware troubleshooting (oscilloscope, lab test equipment).
  • Proficient in scripting (Python, PERL, Bash/shell) and working in Linux-based test environments.
  • Experience with analytical and FA tools: SEM/EDS, CSAM, destructive and non-destructive testing; ability to read circuit schematics/layouts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word/Excel and familiarity with Salesforce, SAP, Jira, and report automation tools (MS BI/Tableau/Sisense/Crystal Reports).
  • Ability to coordinate with suppliers for component-level FA and to deploy standardized supplier processes.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to lift/move up to 65 lbs regularly.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present technical findings to diverse stakeholders.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. The posting also specifies 7–10 years of relevant experience in hardware failure analysis and/or manufacturing test engineering.
