Hardware Engineer Intern (BS) - Summer 2027
Role Summary
Work on the Multimarket Business Group System Engineering Hardware team to develop and validate silicon evaluation boards (EVB) and customer reference boards (CRB) for compute processors, CXL accelerators, security controllers and custom SoCs. The intern assists with board design, FPGA logic validation, bring-up, and cross-functional system validation.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for current undergraduate students (typical experience: 0–2 years). Intended for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree.
Responsibilities
Typical duties include:
- Collaborate with system design engineers on design, review, bring-up, and validation of hardware platforms.
- Perform hands-on lab testing and debug board-level issues.
- Customize and validate FPGA logic for evaluation board control and system enablement.
- Review hardware schematics and PCB layouts to support design quality and functionality.
- Support hardware and software bring-up activities for internal development and customer systems.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Strong foundation in digital circuit design and analysis.
- Embedded programming experience in C.
- Familiarity with Linux environments and basic scripting.
- Understanding of I2C, SPI, and similar communication protocols.
- Exposure to FPGA/RTL design workflows (simulation, synthesis, implementation, or verification).
- Hands-on lab debugging and instrumentation experience.
Education Requirements
Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree (BS) in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with expected graduation between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028. The posting also references PhD candidates in the context of additional compensation, but the role is targeted at BS students.
