Job Title
Hardware Engineer, Infrastructure Silicon Validation
Role Summary
Meta's Infrastructure Silicon team designs and deploys custom silicon that powers data center compute, networking, and storage. This role focuses on post-silicon validation of custom ASICs and silicon platforms—developing validation strategies, building test infrastructure, and driving bring-up and production qualification in collaboration with design, firmware, and operations teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires 6+ years of post-silicon validation, hardware bring-up, or silicon characterization experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include validation, debug, characterization, and infrastructure development for custom infrastructure silicon.
- Develop and execute validation plans covering functional correctness, performance, and reliability.
- Design and implement hardware validation frameworks, test benches, and automated test suites.
- Perform bring-up and debug of custom silicon platforms; identify and root-cause functional failures, timing violations, and signal integrity issues.
- Collaborate with RTL design and physical design teams to create silicon-level validation coverage and corner-case tests.
- Partner with firmware and software teams to validate hardware-software interfaces (register maps, interrupts, DMA, PCIe/Ethernet).
- Analyze characterization data for performance margins, power consumption, and thermal behavior, and provide actionable feedback.
- Drive post-silicon debug using lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, JTAG tools).
- Define and track validation milestones; communicate risk and status to cross-functional stakeholders and resolve blocking issues.
- Support production qualification and yield analysis with manufacturing and data center operations.
- Contribute to scalable validation infrastructure and reusable methodologies across silicon programs.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience are listed first; preferred items follow.
- 6+ years of experience in post-silicon validation, hardware bring-up, or silicon characterization of custom ASICs or SoCs.
- Experience developing and executing validation plans for complex digital hardware (functional verification, performance characterization, reliability testing).
- Experience debugging hardware failures with lab instrumentation: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG debuggers, protocol analyzers.
- Proficiency in scripting or programming for test automation and data analysis (Python, C, or C++).
- Experience collaborating with RTL design, physical design, and firmware teams to drive bring-up and issue resolution.
Preferred:
- Understanding of embedded systems and common bus protocols (I2C, SPI, USB, PCIe).
- Experience in PCIe, networking/ethernet, flash, memory, CPU/GPU, DRAM (LPDDR4/5 or HBM) domains.
- Experience with emulation/FPGA platforms for test content development and debug.
- Familiarity with Linux systems and server systems management.
- Experience validating data center infrastructure (compute accelerators, network ASICs, storage controllers) in hyperscale or cloud environments.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
