Hardware Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) and evaluation boards for optical transceivers. Focus on high-speed hardware architecture, schematic capture, PCB guidance, verification and validation through EVT/DVT. Work in a hybrid role based in Bangalore and collaborate with mechanical, photonics, firmware, process and test teams and suppliers.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically 3–7 years of relevant hardware design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include end-to-end hardware design, verification, and cross-functional integration for high-speed optical transceiver modules and evaluation boards.
- Support hardware design of optical transceivers and evaluation boards: schematic capture, circuit simulation, PCB guidance, DFM review and design verification testing.
- Own PCBA schematic and layout execution for 100G/lane and 200G/lane modules; manage PDN, power delivery and PI requirements.
- Design for high-speed interfaces (NRZ and PAM4 signaling up to and beyond 100Gbps); coordinate PI/SI simulations and high-speed trace routing.
- Define and maintain hardware design specifications, BOM, and design checklists; lead design reviews and present risk/mitigation plans.
- Work with NPI, program management, buyers/planners and suppliers to support builds and part availability.
- Interface with mechanical, optical, photonics, firmware, process and test engineering to meet electrical and optical requirements.
- Support PCB/product bring-up, laboratory electrical and optical characterization, troubleshooting and performance optimization.
Requirements
Required technical skills and experience for initial consideration.
- Proven hardware/circuit design experience including schematic design and layout floor planning.
- Hands-on experience with Cadence tools for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience designing high-density, multi-layer, high-speed boards and implementing appropriate stackups.
- Component selection and layout optimization for voltage regulators, microcontrollers, DACs/ADCs and other mixed-signal components.
- Practical PCB and product bring-up experience and laboratory skills for electrical and optical measurements.
- High-speed transmission line design knowledge and layout guidelines (e.g., 25–50G NRZ, 100Gbps PAM4 and above).
- Familiarity with microcontroller principles and communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, MDIO and CMIS management interfaces for optical modules.
- Experience working with DSPs/drivers/TIAs and high-speed analog front-end components in 100Gbps+ designs.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with high-volume PCB/substrate fabrication and selecting PCB stackups to meet product requirements.
- Experience with PI and SI simulations and working with dedicated PI/SI engineers.
- Familiarity with test and characterization equipment (AWG, DCAM, VNA/LCA) for high-speed performance validation.
- Experience directing layout engineers and strong communication/presentation skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of experience, or Master’s degree with 4+ years, or PhD with 2+ years in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field. Equivalent practical experience (from research, prior roles or internships) is explicitly accepted.
