RTL Design Jobs, Level - Mid-Career

Job Title

Hardware Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement FPGA and ASIC applications and improve internal hardware-design and testing tools. The role combines RTL design, verification, and tool development with a software-engineering approach to hardware.

You'll work on end-to-end projects (architecture through integration), primarily using OCaml and Hardcaml for RTL and test infrastructure, with some Verilog and C for integration and vendor toolflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Mid-Career). No explicit years-of-experience range provided.

Responsibilities

Deliver hardware designs and tooling, and participate in testing and integration.

  • Architect and implement FPGA or ASIC RTL for new applications.
  • Develop and extend high-level design and test tooling (e.g., Hardcaml/OCaml-based flows).
  • Create and maintain testbenches, integration, and validation infrastructure.
  • Work with vendor toolchains for synthesis/place-and-route for FPGAs and ASICs.
  • Integrate designs with firmware and software components (Verilog, C).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy hardware in target systems (including networking contexts).
  • Document designs, participate in design reviews, and iterate based on testing results.

Requirements

Core technical skills and personal qualities required; separate list of desirable skills follows.

Must-have:

  • Proficient in a software programming language and comfortable applying software engineering practices to hardware design.
  • Experience with a Hardware Description or Construction language (VHDL, Verilog, Chisel, Pymtl, or similar) for writing and testing RTL.
  • Experience using FPGA or ASIC vendor tools (examples: Vivado, Quartus, Genus, Innovus) and completing a working hardware project (academic, professional, or personal).
  • Strong debugging and verification skills, and experience building testbenches or integration tests.
  • Collaborative, intellectually curious, and able to learn new tools and languages quickly.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with OCaml or other strongly typed functional languages and familiarity with Hardcaml or similar hardware-construction libraries.
  • Previous work on networking-related hardware or low-latency systems.
  • Experience across both FPGA and ASIC flows and higher-level tool development for RTL generation and testing.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
