Job Title

Hardware Design for Test (DFT) Intern — NVIDIA 2027

Role Summary

This 12-week, full-time internship places students on NVIDIA hardware teams working on design-for-test (DFT) and test architecture for digital ASICs. Interns deliver measurable project work supporting pre-silicon verification, test insertion, and post-silicon debug.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship intended for current graduate students; full-time for the internship duration.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities for the role include:

  • Implement and validate DFT features such as scan chain design, ATPG integration, and boundary scan.
  • Design and evaluate memory and logic Built-In Self-Test (BIST) and compression strategies.
  • Perform static timing analysis (STA) and at-speed/delay testing to verify timing and functional behavior.
  • Investigate and debug pre-silicon and post-silicon issues affecting testability and chip functionality.
  • Develop scripts and automation for test generation and flows (scripting and tool integration).
  • Collaborate with IP, design, validation, and test engineering teams and document results and proposals.

Requirements

Key technical requirements and relevant experience; degree enrollment details are listed under Education Requirements below.

  • Coursework or internship experience in DFT, digital design, test architecture, or related areas.
  • Hands-on knowledge of scan chain design, ATPG, memory/logic BIST, compression techniques, and at-speed testing concepts.
  • Experience with static timing analysis (STA) and debugging timing-related issues.
  • Programming or scripting proficiency (examples: Perl, TCL, C, C++, Python) for automation and tool integration.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based flows and EDA/test tools is expected; specific tool experience below is beneficial.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with Synopsys tools, TetraMAX, Cadence Modus, or similar DFT/ATPG toolchains.

Education Requirements

Must be actively enrolled and pursuing an M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field for the full duration of the 12-week internship; anticipated graduation month and year must be indicated on the resume/CV.
