Job Title

Hardware Design Engineer — Optical Validation

Role Summary

Design and deliver evaluation and validation hardware for optical interconnect DSP products used in data-center connectivity. The role focuses on high-speed PCB design, schematic review, board build planning, and hands-on bring-up and debugging in a lab environment.

The engineer will work with PCB layout teams, system engineers, and test labs to produce robust evaluation kits and platforms for validation, characterization, and system integration.

Experience Level

Senior — typically a Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of relevant industry experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include developing hardware and leading validation activities.

  • Design and develop high-speed evaluation kit (EVK) hardware for optical validation of DSP products.
  • Review and drive high-quality schematics, focusing on signal integrity, power integrity, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with PCB layout engineers to ensure compliance with high-speed design practices.
  • Plan and execute board builds: component selection, procurement coordination, and build readiness.
  • Lead board bring-up, debugging, and validation using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, TDRs, etc.).
  • Provide technical feedback to cross-functional teams to support system integration and characterization.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proven experience designing high-speed, high-density PCBs for networking, optical, or data-center applications.
  • Ability to review and assess complex schematics for high-speed digital and mixed-signal designs.
  • Strong background in signal integrity and power integrity analysis and design.
  • Proficiency with Cadence OrCAD / Allegro PCB design tools.
  • Hands-on lab experience with high-speed measurements, including real-time/sampling oscilloscopes and TDR.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with substrate-like PCBs, advanced materials, or flexible printed circuits.
  • Exposure to optical modules, coherent or PAM4 systems, or DSP-based platforms.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (with typically 8+ years of relevant industry experience), or Master’s degree in a related field (with typically 6+ years of experience). Fields listed include Electrical Engineering and related technical disciplines.
