Graphics Hardware Validation Undergraduate Engineering Intern

Role Summary

Internship within Intel's Data Center Group (DCG) to validate discrete graphics platforms and support system-level readiness. The role focuses on developing and executing validation tests, analyzing results, debugging hardware and software issues, and contributing to platform quality and performance assessments.

This position requires on-site presence in Toronto and provides hands-on exposure to GPU and PC architecture, lab equipment, Python automation, power and thermal validation, PCIe, operating systems, and system-level troubleshooting.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for undergraduate students. Suitable for candidates with limited professional experience (typically 0–3 years) who have relevant coursework, lab work, projects, or prior internships.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute platform and board validation test plans to assess functionality and performance.
  • Run benchmarks and power/thermal validation; collect, analyze, and report test results.
  • Investigate anomalies and assist in debugging functional and performance issues at the system level.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure platform readiness and manufacturability assessments.
  • Document test procedures, findings, and recommended next steps; communicate results to engineering teams.

Requirements

Minimum practical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • At least 3 months of relevant educational or work experience with computer architecture or computer organization.
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, supplies).
  • Experience working with Windows drivers/operating systems, error logs, configuration tools, or experience with Linux and command-line tools.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, collaboration, and clear technical communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with discrete graphics add-in cards or mobile discrete graphics systems, familiarity with PC x86 architecture, experience building PCs, and programming in Python or similar languages.

Education Requirements

Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field. Qualifications may be met through coursework, labs, research, internships, or equivalent practical experience.
