Job Title

Graphics (GPU) Hardware Project Engineer

Role Summary

The Project Engineer (PE) leads technical direction and execution for GPU hardware projects across architecture, development, and productization phases. The PE coordinates cross-functional engineering teams, partners with Product and Program Management, resolves technical tradeoffs, and drives delivery of GPU functionality into system-on-chip products.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requires experienced candidates (posting references 10+ years combined HW/SW/System engineering and also lists experience formulas: Bachelor's +8+ years, Master’s +7+ years, PhD +6+ years). Candidates should have substantial cross-domain engineering leadership and project ownership.

Responsibilities

Primary technical responsibilities and leadership duties include:

  • Lead technical planning, execution, and delivery of GPU IP across teams (architecture, RTL, verification, synthesis, physical design, silicon validation).
  • Serve as technical liaison between GPU hardware engineering, Product Management, Program Management, and customers.
  • Define priorities and make engineering trade-offs to meet product KPIs and market requirements.
  • Organize and drive technical reviews, design meetings, tiger teams, and retrospectives.
  • Resolve cross-team technical issues, perform risk and impact analysis, and drive quality goals.
  • Communicate technical options and status clearly in written and verbal form to engineering and management stakeholders.
  • Ensure inventions are assessed for patent potential and contribute to long-term strategic direction of GPU cores.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience (concise):

  • Significant combined hardware, software, and system engineering experience (senior-level, see Experience Level for guidance).
  • Proven cross-functional technical leadership: coordinate large, distributed engineering teams and drive decisions to completion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication across channels (meetings, reports, presentations).
  • Comfortable in technical discussions spanning software, hardware, system, and productization domains; able to translate business goals into technical requirements.
  • Experience resolving complex technical trade-offs, performing engineering risk/impact analysis, and enforcing quality objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new technical domains and to drive process improvements where needed.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Extensive ASIC design-flow knowledge (architecture, microarchitecture, RTL, verification, synthesis, physical design) in advanced process nodes.
  • Graphics (GPU) hardware experience (multi-year) and prior Project Engineer or System Architect experience on large programs (>50 contributors).
  • History of converting product/market goals into successful technical designs and products.

Education Requirements

Posting requests a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. It lists: Bachelor's (with higher experience expectations), Master's (reduces experience requirement by ~1 year), and PhD (reduces experience requirement further). The posting also accepts equivalent related work experience and notes Qualcomm tenure may be credited at a higher multiplier toward experience requirements.
