Graduate Software Engineer

Role Summary

Entry-level software engineer joining Arm's Budapest software teams to develop high-performance software across the stack: firmware, operating systems, device drivers, compilers, runtimes and middleware. Work will involve development, performance analysis, board bring-up, and collaboration with multi-site teams and mentors.

Entry-level / Graduate - suitable for recent graduates or candidates on track to graduate. No specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities vary by team; common duties include:

  • Develop and maintain software across firmware, OS, drivers, runtimes, and middleware.
  • Investigate feasibility of ideas, prototype features, and analyse root causes of behaviour.
  • Profile and optimise software for CPU and system architectures.
  • Bring up development boards and work with early platforms, models, or silicon.
  • Upstream code to open source projects when applicable and collaborate with cross-site teams and mentors.
  • Contribute to testing, debugging, and verification of software on hardware and emulation platforms.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; attention to detail.
  • Proficient in C or C++; assembly language skills are desirable.
  • Familiarity with performance optimisation and how CPU/system architecture affects software performance.
  • Knowledge of at least one CPU architecture and features such as pipelines, caches, MMUs, interrupt controllers, and timers.
  • Good communication skills in English; self-motivated and eager to learn.

Nice-to-have:

  • Open source contributions.
  • Experience with Linux, OS development, device drivers, or middleware.
  • Compiler, JIT, runtime, or performance optimisation experience.
  • Embedded/RTOS experience (e.g. Zephyr, FreeRTOS) or board bring-up experience.
  • Familiarity with Rust, Python, Java, shell scripting, automation, DevOps or CI/CD tools.

Education Requirements

Applicants should hold, or be on track to hold by the programme start date, a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree (relevant discipline). "On track to hold" graduates are eligible.
